Devotional Day 11:
A Heart of gratitude
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Gratitude shifts everything.
Not because it changes your circumstances
but because it changes your perspective.
Yesterday we talked about choosing joy.
But joy doesn’t usually appear out of nowhere.
It grows from something.
It grows from gratitude.
It grows when we stop focusing on what’s missing
and start noticing what’s already been given.
The enemy loves to highlight what you lack.
The unanswered prayer.
The thing you’re still waiting for.
The door that hasn’t opened.
But gratitude gently redirects our eyes.
It says:
Look again.
Look closer.
Look at what God has already done.
Maybe the season you’re in isn’t easy.
Maybe it’s stretching you.
Maybe it’s not what you would have chosen.
But even here, there is something to thank Him for.
The breath in your lungs.
The family around your table.
The growth happening quietly inside of you.
The strength you didn’t know you had.
Gratitude doesn’t ignore pain.
It simply refuses to let pain be the loudest voice.
When you begin to thank God, even before the breakthrough
something shifts in your spirit.
Peace rises.
Joy steadies.
Trust deepens.
A thankful heart creates the space where joy can take root and flourish.
So today, instead of asking, “Why isn’t this different?”
Try asking, “God, where are You working in this?”
You may be surprised at how much beauty has been there all along.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for the blessings I often overlook.
Forgive me for the times I focus more on what I lack
than on all You have already given.
Teach me to have a grateful heart
not only when life feels easy,
but in every season.
Open my eyes to see your goodness in the ordinary moments.
Help me to trust that you are working, even when I cannot see it.
Let gratitude rise within me and overflow into joy.
May my heart always remember
that every good gift comes from You.
In Jesus name, Amen.
